2012 July 3 – Breathe strong for Natalie

Natalie Shepherd-Jones was a 31 year old woman who had never smoked a day in her life. Three months ago, she was a perfectly healthy Occupational Therapist until she developed a cough which wouldn’t go away. She was misdiagnosed with both a chest infection and Tuberculosis until she was correctly diagnosed with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (adenocerlinoma) with secondary bone cancer and also brain cancer.

Three months on and Natalie passed away, leaving behind her husband and two young sons under the age of five. Originally from Kerikeri, New Zealand, her funeral was held at a small church in Thirlmere.

Before Natalie passed away, her husband had to give up his job to be a fulltime carer for Natalie as she couldn’t walk and had to use a wheelchair.  Now Natalie has passed, her husband must look after their two young sons so they are in for tough financial times ahead. Natalie’s family are organising a benefit night in her honour on Friday, July 20 at the Campbelltown RSL Club in NSW. The night starts at 6.30pm and the ticket price includes a three course meal, entertainment, auctions, silent auctions and a major raffle. All funds raised from the Breathe Strong for Natalie benefit night will go to Natalie’s husband and their two sons to help them get through this very sad time.
