Dr Alan Herschtal – Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
Dr Alan Herschtal has a strong background in biostatistics, especially as applied to radiotherapy. Since joining Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in 2007, he has contributed statistical support, analysis and advice to a large number of radiotherapy and other cancer clinical trials, in particular for urological malignancies, but also including a variety of RT trials for lung, breast, and head and neck malignancies.
He has conducted independent research into the area of radiotherapy margining, and has spoken on this and on various other statistical issues at a variety of public forums.
He won the best radiation therapy presentation award at the annual Engineers and Physical Scientists in Medicine conference in 2008, as well as the EJG Pitman Prize for the most outstanding talk presented by a ‘young statistician’ at the Australian Statistical Conference in 2014. His Ph.D. on the subject of Bayesian modelling of radiotherapy patient displacements for adaptive radiotherapy margining was awarded in 2015.
