Lung Foundation Australia turns over a new leaf with new CEO
Lung Foundation Australia has appointed Mrs Heather Allan as their incoming CEO when the long-serving William Darbishire retires in July.
Bringing a wealth of national and international public health communication and issues management experience to the role, Mrs Allan is the Lung Foundation’s Director of Marketing and Health Strategy and was the Foundation’s Director of the COPD National Program for eight years before that.
Mrs Allan also spent seven years working in various roles in New Zealand public health sector.
She said it was an honour to be appointed to the CEO role and to build on the significant work of her predecessor.
“For the past 12 years, Lung Foundation Australia has blossomed under William’s careful stewardship,” Mrs Allan said.
“As we have in the past, we will continue to work for patients, carers, their families, physicians and all people in Australia to reduce the burden of lung disease.
“I know everyone who has worked with William and the Lung Foundation during the past decade will join me in wishing him all the best for his retirement and to thank him for his great work advocating and promoting the importance of the lung health.”
Mr Darbishire is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the United Kingdom, a Emeritus Fellow with Uniting HealthCare and a former Executive Director of the Mater Women’s and Children’s Hospitals.
“I have worked closely with Heather, tirelessly building the Lung Foundation for many years and am confident the Lung Foundation in good hands with Heather in charge,” Mr Darbishire said.
“Her energy, enthusiasm and strategic know-how, coupled with a detailed knowledge of the Lung Foundation and the Community we serve, will prove vital and I look forward to seeing Lung Foundation Australia continue to flourish in its quest to make lung health a priority for all in Australia.
“We received an enormous number of applications from high quality candidates following our National recruitment campaign for the CEO position. This reflects the good name of the Lung Foundation and the desirability of working for such a committed organisation.”
Mrs Allan commences as CEO on Monday 9th June with a month-long transition period before Mr Darbishire retires on the 4th of July.
