Making lung health an ‘Abbott’ is ‘Rudd’umentary
With both major parties making the need to address chronic health issues a key part of their health policies, checking your lung health has never been more important.
This Father’s Day, Lung Foundation Australia supports families around the country to ‘breathe easy’ and offers a last minute gift idea.
Acting CEO Glenda Colburn said if dad was finding it harder to walk up the stairs or to mow the lawn, then it might be worth checking if his lungs have plenty of puff.
“If you haven’t got dad a present, why not buy him a ticket in the ASX Thomson Reuters Art Union from our website and, while you are there, get him to do the lung health checklist,” Ms Colburn said.
“As we celebrate the importance of our dads today, we should encourage them to spend some time thinking about their health,” she said.
“We need people to get into the habit of checking their lung health and to make lung health a priority for all Australians.
“In fact, a 2009 study found almost one in three Australians were at serious risk of developing a lung disease.”
Ms Colburn said Lung Foundation Australia had joined with the ASX Thomson Reuters Charity Foundation to launch their annual art union with the funds being used to support the foundation’s community of patients, families and health professionals through providing support, information and education.
“The ASX Group and Thomson Reuters Australia (formerly Reuters) joined forces in 1999 to form a Charity Foundation to help Australian-based children’s, disability and medical research charities by organising fundraising events in conjunction with the Financial Markets,” she said.
“So why not invest in Dad’s lung health and in the health of millions of Australians?”
