Investing in research

The most effective way to improve the prevention, detection and treatment of lung disease is through research.

While progress is being made, there is still a long way to go.

Research requires a long term approach and a significant funding investment. Early career researchers rely on funding from organisations like Lung Foundation Australia to build a track record. Without this funding, larger project grants which are normally funded through federal or state based grants would not be possible.

With the demand for research funding so great and a finite amount to hand out each year, it is critical for Lung Foundation Australia to raise and invest funds wisely in lung research. We do this by:

  • Developing strategic partnerships with leading research institutes and universities who co-fund a number of our research awards and provide the infrastructure required to perform world class research.
  • Working with the community to identify and raise funds for areas of unmet needs.
  • Gaining support from industry bodies to develop and maintain research programs and projects.

How you can support research

Our Research Program would not exist without the collaboration, support and generosity of the community and a number of industry and private partners. There are a number of ways the organisations and the community can get involved and help make an impact through research.

Opportunities for the community

  • Honour a loved one by sponsoring a research award dedicated in their name.
  • Donate towards research in a disease area of your choice.
  • Leave a bequest dedicated to lung disease research.

Opportunities for organisations

  • Sponsor a research award or provide matched funding.
  • Donate towards research in a disease area of your choice.
  • Sponsor clinical trials.
