Call for Expression of Interest – Consumer Representative

Lung Cancer Patient and Family Advisory Group

Lung Foundation Australia values patient and family input into the improvement and evaluation of our services and we are looking for enthusiastic people across Australia to help form an advisory group comprising patients, carers and/or family members directly affected by lung cancer.
We are currently inviting applications for consumer representatives to sit on a newly created Lung Cancer Patient and Family Advisory Group that will commence in early 2017. This Group will provide a structured partnership between 8 – 12 patients, carers and/or family members and Lung Foundation Australia.
The Lung Foundation acknowledges that there are other cancers such as mesothelioma, thymomas, or mediastinal mtumors, and people affected by these thoracic cancers are also invited to submit an expression of interest to join this Group.

The Lung Cancer Patient and Family Advisory Group will play a key role in helping Lung Foundation Australia shape its thoracic cancer services, utilising consumer experience and knowledge to improve the patient experience and services offered by the Lung Foundation’s Lung Cancer National Program.

Importantly, we aim to build a platform that allows us to streamline our message, raise the profile of lung cancer and continue to address the needs of those affected by lung cancer in the community.

Your view will represent the wide interests of consumers by putting forward opinions, ideas, suggestions and concerns in the various lung cancer projects and strategies undertaken by the Lung Foundation.

Positions on the Lung Cancer Patient and Family Advisory Group are voluntary; however the Lung Foundation will cover any out-of-pocket expenses that are incurred through participation in this Group.

Meetings will be scheduled every two months via teleconference for approximately 1 hour duration with a time that is suitable for most; face-to-face meetings will be planned on occasion and when required. Other commitments maybe requested from time to time and are based on your involvement in other Lung Foundation activities.

We are looking for patients, carers and/or family members across Australia (ideally a representative will be sourced from each State and Territory) who are as passionate as we are in ensuring our services meet the needs of the lung cancer community.

Consumer Representatives will be appointed for a two year term however this can be extended upon mutual agreement.

To register your interest please email Glenda Colburn – Director, Lung Cancer National Program on and share your name, contact details, reason for interest in joining this Group and any previous experience you may have on other consumer committees.

For further information please contact Glenda on 1800 654 301.
