Farewell to Lung Foundation friends
On 22 April, COPD Patient Advocate Group (CPAG) member and past chair, Megan Rushton passed away. For the past seven years, Megan had been a passionate supporter of the Lung Foundation and her input and counsel was highly valued and her opinions keenly sought. Megan organised awareness days, spoke in the media on behalf of those affected by lung disease and assisted in the development of patient resources and her contribution to the work of the Lung Foundation will be greatly missed.
Life member and stalwart of the Taree LungNet Support Group, Norma Ham passed away on 17 May. Norma was the longest serving President of the group which was established in 1999 and she had a passion for helping and supporting others even through her own ill-health. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
In May, we bade farewell to Dianne, a dearly loved Mother, Grandmother and teacher in the Bellbowrie community. The high esteem in which she was held was evident in the generosity of her community of family and friends who raised more than $20,000 for lung cancer research.
Julio (Jay) Silva
On 18 May, we farewelled Julio, an extremely passionate lung cancer advocate who, with the support of his wife Jo and their daughters, participated in annual Shine a Light on lung cancer awareness events – locally, interstate and overseas. In March, the Silva family celebrated Julio’s six year lung cancer survival with a moving and reflective video that they shared on their social media page, Changing Lung Cancer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7P2QofFxeA&feature=youtubew.
Kris, a long-term member and Secretary of the WestAir Support Group in Adelaide, passed away on 5 June. He will be greatly missed.
