Governor General takes the reins as Lung Foundation Australia patron
The Governor-General of Australia confirmed his patronage of Lung Foundation Australia this month, recognising the organisation as having credentials of the highest order in terms of financial and other management matters.
His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) saw the work of Lung Foundation Australia as complementary to his responsibilities as Governor-General and to themes of personal interest to him.
With a focus on supporting patients, carers and health professionals, the Lung Foundation provides valuable and essential services, raising awareness of the importance of lung health, promoting the early diagnosis of lung disease, advocating for equitable access to evidence-based care, and supporting quality research.
Announced at a special event at Admiralty House in early April, the Governor-General’s patronage highlights the importance of the Lung Foundation’s work and acknowledges the esteem in which the organisation is held.
Lung Foundation Australia has a long history of support from the highest office in the land. The Hon Bill Hayden agreed to accept the role as patron in 1990 during his tenure as Governor-General, every Governor-General since that time has served in the role.
