What Can I Do To Support Australians Living With Lung Cancer?

There are so many things you can do to help Australians living with lung cancer! You can help by using your voice to advocate, speaking to your local MP to take the message to Parliament, or getting involved in the community.

We need everyone to rally behind the cause to help to improve lung cancer survival rates, funding, treatment options and support, for those of Australians living with the disease.

You can also join Lung Foundation Australia’s annual ‘Shine a Light on lung cancer’ campaign to help raise awareness and funding for life-changing research and support services. Or simply donate to Lung Foundation Australia – no matter how big or small, every dollar makes a big difference.

What can you do to support Australians living with lung cancer? Wow. There’s so many things you can do. You can organise a get-together. You can organise a stall. You can raise awareness. You can go to your local member of parliament, MP, to take this to parliament. You can do a fundraiser. You can donate to Lung Foundation Australia. Anything, you can talk about lung cancer. I mean, people have this vision of people with lung cancer is we can’t talk to them because they’ve got lung cancer. We’re just normal people. We just happened to have something inside of us that’s not very nice, but we’re still normal people. We can still laugh, and joke and we still can have a drink and go out and party the same as everybody else. We’re no different than anybody else, but we get treated differently.

So, it’s our job as patients to try and make the public understand what we’re going through. I myself have done a great amount of work with a huge team of people that are the support network that you have around you. We’ve been to parliament and it’s very important for politicians to know what we’re going through. Lung Foundation Australia is a huge, huge support in everything we do as a patient to help raise awareness and funding for research.

I hope that some of you take this on board. Start off with an afternoon tea, charge ten dollars, give them cakes and sandwiches and a cup of tea and everything goes to the Lung Foundation for research. You don’t have to do great big things, but anybody can raise awareness. They can have a stall. They can have an afternoon tea. They can say, “Right, we’re going to do this,” or “We’re going to make a calendar,” or anything. You can do anything you want. You can raise awareness in any way you would like. I don’t think there is a limit on this. People can do anything they want to do. And if you want the support then please contact Lung Foundation Australia. They’re always there on the other end of the line. And I hope you’ll follow the link at the end of this video. Lung Cancer Search and Rescue. Hope in every breath.
