How Is Lung Cancer Treated?

Treatment for lung cancer will depend on the type of lung cancer you have, how advanced it is and your overall general health. At every stage of lung cancer (I.e. 1, 2, 3, and 4) there are treatment options available for you, which may include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or targeted therapy.

Before making a treatment decision, it is important to fully understand your lung cancer diagnosis and the treatment options available to you. Write down questions to ask your doctor, attend appointments with a family member or friend, record details of conversations, and don’t be afraid to consider second opinions.

Remember that treatment options will continue to change over time thanks to the power of research, and in recent years we’ve seen advances in the class and variety of treatments. Research is providing us with hope that never existed before.

How is lung cancer treated? Lung cancer can be treated in so many different ways depending on what kind of lung cancer you have. I think for me, my only treatment that was available was surgery, but I do know there are lots of other treatments available for stage one, two, three and four.

I think it’s very important as a lung cancer patient to find out what is the best treatment for yourself. And to make a decision is very important because you’re going through so much to be told you’ve got lung cancer and you’ve got to answer, you’ve got to make decisions so quickly. And I think going to see the doctors, go with somebody, write questions down because there will always be questions you want answered that you wish you’d ask, and you hadn’t remembered what they were. Make sure that someone’s there with you. Seek a second opinion if you have to. It doesn’t matter.

We continue to see changes in the treatment for lung cancer because research plays a huge part, and over the last few years, we’ve seen a huge, huge change in it. Treatments have increased. A lot more people are surviving. Their quality of life is far better than it was nine years ago when I was diagnosed. Lung Cancer Search and Rescue. Hope in every breath.
