A respiratory nurse is often your go-to for clinical information and support to help you live well with your lung condition. Lung Foundation Australia’s community fundraising campaign is aiming to raise $150,000 to employ a qualified Respiratory Nurse to provide support and advice via our freecall Information and Support Centre.
To kick start the campaign, the Nepean Puffers and Wheezers Support Group from Penrith, were our first fundraisers organising a World COPD Day walk raising almost $4,000. Lennette Ruttle, carer for her husband John, who lives with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and runs the support group, said everyone was excited to participate. “Everyone did what they could – some people walked 100 meters whilst others walked over one kilometre. You don’t have to be super fit, you just need be willing to give it a go and to have some fun,” Lennette said. Bill van Nierop also kindly dedicated a portion of the funds raised in 2017 via his Long Walk for Lungs to support the campaign. Help us establish this important service by donating or hosting your own fundraiser.
