This document outlines Lung Foundation Australia’s position on e-cigarettes. Lung Foundation Australia makes recommendations under the following four priority areas:
- All State and Territory Government’s amend their relevant legislation, at a minimum to align with the Commonwealth Therapeutic Goods and Other Legislation Amendment (Vaping Reforms) Bill 2024.
- Strengthen monitoring and enforcement of e-cigarettes outside of the Schedule 3 (Pharmacist Only) Medicine model.
- Increased investment in awareness and education campaigns, as well as cessation support, for young people and key target groups.
- All jurisdictions amend relevant Acts to ban political donations from the tobacco and vaping industry in line with Article 5.3 of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), and the Australian Government’s National Tobacco Strategy 2022-2030 priority area 9.
