Our strategies and campaigns

We’re proud to be recognised as the leading lung health charity, achieving ‘health peak body’ status in 2022. This is a testament to our commitment and expertise, meaning the Australian government actively seeks our evidence-based and impartial advice to inform health policy and program development, and to support their communication and consultation activities.

We have a strong and proven history in developing powerful, evidence-based strategic documents and impactful campaigns. This collaborative process involves close partnerships with consumers, dedicated health professionals, leading researchers, and many other like-minded organisations. By leveraging these strategic tools and collective strength, we consistently create meaningful, lasting change in lung health across Australia.

Driving 2025 Federal election priorities for lung health

We are calling for action across five priority areas to reduce the burden of lung disease and lung cancer and to protect the lung health of all Australians. The policies and programs included in our election priorities are evidence-based and will make a real impact on the lives of Australians.

Cost of living survey 2024

We surveyed the community to better understand how cost-of-living pressures are impacting those with a lung disease or lung cancer, and explore possible measures for easing current pressures. The survey provides new and important data for government and non-government organisations to consider. We will continue to advocate for policy change and champion equitable access to treatment and care, working to improve lung health and reduce the impact of lung disease across Australia

Vital vaccines for Australian adults

Vaccination against respiratory infection is vital to protect the lung health of Australians living with, and without, lung disease. In 2024, we surveyed over 3,300 Australians to better understand barriers to adult vaccination, information needs, and support for potential policy measures. This report summarises vaccination information, survey findings, and our recommendations for improving adult vaccination coverage to reduce the impact of respiratory disease.

National Silicosis Prevention Strategy

We were appointed by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care to facilitate the development of this Strategy and accompanying National Action Plan. The goal of this strategy is to prevent and ultimately eliminate silicosis as an occupational disease in Australia. Five priority areas for action have been identified in the Strategy to achieve this goal.

Transforming the agenda for COPD

On World COPD Day 2022, Lung Foundation Australia launched this COPD Blueprint, Transforming the agenda for COPD. The report provides the government with five urgent actions to drive significant and positive change that will improve outcomes for thousands of families impacted by COPD, and the lives of all Australians through better lung health.

The next breath: Accelerating lung cancer reform in Australia

The Blueprint, The Next Breath: Accelerating Lung Cancer Reform in Australia, identifies the critical issues in lung cancer that need government investment and coordinated national action. It provides a framework to drive significant change that can transform lung cancer care and save lives.

The lung cancer community is determined to change the story of lung cancer.

National Strategic Action Plan for Lung Conditions

The National Strategic Action Plan for Lung conditions provides a comprehensive, collaborative, and evidence-based approach to reducing the individual and societal burden of lung conditions and improving lung health. The plan addresses the broad spectrum of lung conditions, ranging from the common cold which impacts the health of many Australians and their participation in the workforce, education, and social activities, to lung cancer which is Australia’s biggest cancer killer with an estimated 9,020 deaths in 2017: more than breast, prostate and ovarian cancers combined.

COVID-19: A roadmap for recovery

This report discusses the results from our national survey about the experiences of Australians throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of ongoing COVID-19 symptoms.  We further gained a unique insight into the impacts of COVID-19 for the lung disease community and a better understanding of gaps in support for Australians living with ongoing COVID-19 symptoms.
