How Do You Screen For Lung Cancer?

Answer:

Lung cancer can be diagnosed through several tests such as an X-ray, or biopsy, but a low-dose CT scan is the most effective and preferred method.

Lung Foundation Australia and the lung cancer community have worked hard to secure an inquiry into the development of a national lung cancer screening program, and we look forward to the Minister for Health releasing the outcomes of this review later this year. In the meantime, you can get involved and help us continue to champion change and hope by connecting with us today.

How do we screen for lung cancer? Today in Australia, there is no national screening program for lung cancer like there is for other cancers. So, the Australian Government is working with Cancer Australia to try and provide the community with a way that we can screen for lung cancer. Through community input we’ll be able to ensure that we can get a national screening program that works like other cancers.

My wife and my experience with lung cancer was that she felt a lump in her neck. We then went and got a biopsy and that biopsy showed that, that there was lung cancer. After that we do what’s standard for screening programs throughout the world and that is to do a CT scan, a low dose one, which has very little impact on the person to ensure that we can see what’s going on inside the body and the lungs in particular.
