What should I do if I’m worried about lung cancer symptoms during COVID-19?

Answer:

If you’re experiencing any respiratory signs and symptoms please do not ignore them. It is important to book an appointment to have your symptoms assessed by your doctor, whether it be via the telephone, videoconference or face-to-face appointment.

COVID-19 has created a lot of confusion, particularly concerning what you should do if you become unwell and are experiencing respiratory symptoms. Whilst Australians have been told to stay at home and self-isolate if unwell, it is still vitally important not to ignore new or ongoing respiratory symptoms, that may not just be a cold.

The symptoms of lung cancer, such as breathlessness or a persistent cough, can be vague and are often dismissed for another condition which can lead to significant delays in diagnosis.

To find out more, speak to your doctor or book a free telephone appointment with Lung Foundation Australia’s Lung Cancer Support Nurse today.

What should I do if I’m worried about lung cancer symptoms during COVID-19? This is a really good question.

COVID-19 symptoms are very similar to lung cancer symptoms. With lung cancer, you do have the shortness of breath and you have a persistent cough. So it’s really important that you go and get these respiratory problems checked.

As in my case, I had a persistent cough that went on, and by the time I was diagnosed, it was stage four. So I can only urge you to please, if there’s any symptoms that are showing with shortness of breath or with a persistent cough, go to your doctor and get this assessed. Lung Cancer Search and Rescue. Hope in every breath.
