Lung Support Service (Texting for Wellness)

What is the Lung Support Service?

The Lung Support Service (Texting for Wellness) is a free text message support service for people living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It is designed to provide you with an additional level of support in the form of practical advice, information and tips to assist you in the management of your lung condition.

During this especially challenging time of social isolation, this service, which was developed by a team of researchers at The University of Sydney, offers an additional level of information and support during the COVID-19 pandemic, all from the comfort of your own home.

By registering for the service, you will receive text messages on a weekly basis for approximately six months. The messages will provide general health advice and tips, including recommendations on healthy behaviours and the importance of medication adherence. If you are no longer interested in the service, you can opt out at any time by replying “STOP” to any message you receive.

Note: This service is not a substitute for professional advice from your treating healthcare team. The service should not replace the care and advice your team provide to you. It is not intended for the purpose of diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment or alleviation of your disease.

What are the benefits of the Lung Support Service?

The Lung Support Service is designed to provide you with tips to assist you in managing your chronic disease that are practical and supportive. The simplicity of the text messages you will receive, which have been tailored by clinicians specifically for people living with COPD, will empower you to manage your condition and seek further support and information from your treating healthcare team. It may help you feel connected in a time where many of us are practicing social isolation and distancing.
