COPD Action Plan – Greyscale

The *COPD Action Plan* from Lung Foundation Australia is a tool designed to help individuals living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) manage the early signs of a flare-up (exacerbation), to help reduce the risk of a severe exacerbation or hospital admission.

While original COPD Action Plan uses a traffic-light system for colour-coding, we recognise that many Australians prefer or require a *greyscale COPD Action Plan *that remains clear and legible when printed in black and write and is printer-friendly. This black and white version is specifically optimised for those who do not have access to a colour printer or for medical clinics looking to reduce printing costs while maintaining high standards of patient care.

Why use a written COPD Action Plan?

The primary purpose of a written *COPD Action Plan* is to help people living with COPD recognise their baseline symptoms and understand exactly what actions to take if their condition worsens. It encourages the regular monitoring of daily symptoms such as breathlessness, cough and sputum (phlegm). This can be used to help identify the early signs of a flare-up (exacerbation) so that appropriate measures can be used to manage these symptoms early, before it gets worse.

Despite the simplified visual style, this document retains all the critical medical information found in our standard colour version.

Accessible COPD resources

This *greyscale COPD Action Plan* ensures that anyone with a basic home printer can have a physical, printed copy on hand. This is important, as it allows people living with COPD to keep their plan in a visible location, such as on the fridge, where it can be easily referenced during a flare-up or shown to emergency responders.

Another benefit of this monochrome version is its high-contrast layout. For many individuals, particularly older adults or those with visual impairments, black text on a crisp white background provides the best possible readability.

Empowering patients through simple documentation

A written action plan is one of the most effective ways to reduce hospitalisations and improve long-term lung health. This black and white PDF provides a practical solution for patients to take control of their condition at home. By following this personalised plan, individuals can detect early warning signs of an exacerbation and initiate treatment sooner, leading to faster recovery and better overall well-being.

Download the *greyscale COPD Action Plan PDF* today and ensure you have the tools needed to manage your lung health effectively, regardless of your printing setup.
