Most people with COVID-19 will experience mild symptoms such as a sore throat or cough and some might not experience symptoms at all. For a small percentage of people, the infection can be severe and they may become unwell and require hospitalisation. For those people, the virus can lead to other complications such as pneumonia and even respiratory failure.
How does COVID-19 affect the lungs? Well, COVID-19, maybe we would all know, is a respiratory condition. It’s a virus without any treatment at the moment. And therefore, the symptoms can range from very mild to very severe, that require hospitalisation. And it very much depends on the type of person you are, your level of fitness and your age that really determines whether it’s going to impact you severely or not.
But the most important thing, particularly if you have other lung condition like lung cancer is to seek help and speak to your healthcare professional support team to get advice on what you should do, including whether you need various vaccines for the flu or pneumonia as well.
