Professor Sarath is a paediatric respiratory physician, researcher and academic with 35 years of experience working in the health and medical sciences sector.
He is head of the University of Melbourne Medical School, consultant respiratory physician and ex-Head of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne and a researcher in childhood respiratory diseases at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.
Professor Sarath is a Fellow of the American Thoracic Society, the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. His areas of medical expertise include Cystic Fibrosis, paediatric asthma, allergy, paediatric bronchoscopy, tuberculosis and lower respiratory tract infection. He has published more than 350 peer-reviewed papers and raised over $70 million in research funding.
Professor Sarath has served as Director of Lung Foundation Australia for ten years.
