David is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician and Clinical Leader. He is the Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Service for the Western Sydney Local Health District and a Senior Visiting Medical Officer in the Department of Respiratory & Sleep Medicine at Westmead Hospital. Dr Michail chairs the Crown Princess Mary Lung Cancer Tumour Board. As a pioneer in improving equity for patients accessing Sleep Diagnostics, he established Sydney’s first and longest running Home Sleep Apnoea Diagnostic Service.
Dr Michail serves on the Board of the Lung Foundation of Australia and chairs the Rare Lung Disease Pulmonary Hypertension Committee. In these roles he has driven advocacy and education initiatives for patients, carers, and health professionals, with a sustained focus on workforce training, community awareness, early diagnosis, and appropriate referral to expert centres.
Dr Michail is committed to improving access to specialist care, mentoring clinicians in pulmonary vascular medicine, and advancing models of multidisciplinary care that translate evidence into practice. He has served on the Board of the Lung Foundation for over 10 years.
