Living well with PAH: Nutrition and energy for wellbeing

Living well with PAH: Nutrition and energy for wellbeing

In this webinar, Dr Aziz Rahman (Professor of Public Health, Federation University Australia) and Ms Alison Wright (Qualified Nutritionist and Wellbeing Programs Specialist) explore how nutrition and dietary strategies can support people living with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). The session provides an evidence-based understanding of how food, electrolytes and lifestyle choices can help manage symptoms, support energy levels, and promote overall wellbeing.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a serious condition that can cause symptoms such as breathlessness, fatigue and reduced exercise tolerance. While medications form the cornerstone of treatment, nutrition also plays a powerful role in helping patients manage day-to-day challenges. This webinar looks at both the science and the practical strategies that can make a difference.

Key areas covered include the importance of magnesium, potassium, sodium and fluid balance in PAH, and how these factors can influence symptoms and medication side effects. The presenters also discuss anti-inflammatory dietary approaches and how they can help reduce discomfort associated with treatment.

Managing fatigue is an ongoing challenge for many people with PAH. The webinar offers practical, realistic ways to support energy levels, appetite and daily functioning. Simple and affordable food choices, meal planning tips, and strategies for managing breathlessness during meals are also explored.

Participants are encouraged to take an active role in their care by understanding how nutrition interacts with their condition, identifying helpful lifestyle adjustments, and making informed decisions in partnership with their treating team.

The session concludes with a live Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions and deepen their understanding of how nutrition can be integrated into comprehensive PAH management.
