Become an advocate for lung health
Our political advocacy program is designed to empower you, no matter your background. Whether you’re living with a lung condition, are a carer, a health professional, a researcher, or a passionate community member, we provide the skills and support you need to advocate for better lung health for everyone in Australia.
Our work is deeply rooted in the experiences of those impacted by lung disease and lung cancer – individuals, carers, families, health professionals, researchers, and the broader community. There are many impactful ways you can support our advocacy efforts. For example, this powerful video amplifies the voices of 12 Australians sharing their direct appeals to the Australian Government.
Advocacy in action
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who shared their voice in this video, and the many others who contributed to advocating for lung cancer screening over many years. As a direct result of our collective efforts, we’re thrilled that lung cancer screening is now funded by the Australian Government.
Improving Access to Medicines – Your Voice Matters
We’re dedicated to securing timely and equitable access to medicines (including vaccines) that genuinely improve the health, social, and economic outcomes for people impacted by lung disease or lung cancer. To achieve this, we prepare comprehensive submissions to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) – the key body that decides which medicines should be subsidised by the Federal Government under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
Our work with the PBAC is truly collaborative. We regularly connect with our network of consumers, actively seeking their invaluable views and experiences of treatments under consideration, well in advance of PBAC meetings. This crucial input ensures the patient voice is central to our submissions. We also empower our community to make their own individual submissions to the PBAC.
If you’re interested in making your own impactful submission, we offer guides to support you in preparing one, and we recommend accessing resources like the Patient Voice Initiative website. For specifics on PBAC meeting schedules, outcomes, and public summary documents, please click here.
