Lung Foundation Australia would like to express its support for long-time ambassador Mel McLaughlin following news she recently underwent surgery after being diagnosed with lung cancer late last year.
McLaughlin, who has been an ambassador for Lung Foundation Australia since 2017, has long been a passionate advocate for lung health after losing her sister, Tara, to lung cancer.
In December, she revealed she had also been diagnosed with lung cancer and has since undergone surgery to remove half of one lung.
Lung Foundation Australia CEO Mark Brooke said the organisation’s thoughts are with McLaughlin as she focuses on her recovery.
“Mel has been an incredibly valued ambassador for Lung Foundation Australia for many years, bravely sharing her family’s experience with lung cancer to help raise awareness and support others,” Mr Brooke said.
“We were saddened to hear about Mel’s diagnosis, and our thoughts are with her as she recovers. Her openness continues to shine a light on the impact lung cancer has on individuals and families across Australia.”
Mr Brooke said community support plays a critical role in helping Lung Foundation Australia continue its mission of giving people the gift of breath.
“Donations help us provide vital information, support services and advocacy for Australians living with lung disease, helping more people breathe easier and live better,” he said.
