Don’t dismiss pulmonary fibrosis

Don’t dismiss pulmonary fibrosis

Pulmonary fibrosis is a serious disease which causes scarring of the lungs.

Over time it can worsen making it harder to breathe.

There are many causes of pulmonary fibrosis such as genetics, autoimmune disease, exposure to materials such as silica and mould, as well as smoking. Sometimes however, the cause is unknown, which is known as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

There are a number of symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis. Early symptoms may mimic other conditions and are easy to brush off as signs of ageing or lack of fitness, but shouldn’t be ignored. The four most common signs of pulmonary fibrosis are breathlessness, cough, fatigue and unexplained weight loss.
Early diagnosis and treatment can slow progression and improve quality of life.

Don’t dismiss pulmonary fibrosis. It is important to talk with your doctor if you have any symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis so you can get the care and treatment you need.
