Getting to know Tim: Larapinta Adventurer 2026

Timothy is a physiotherapist based in Googong, New South Wales, working across the ACT. He has a special interest in supporting people living with chronic lung disease to better manage their symptoms and maintain their quality of life. Through his work, Tim sees first-hand the far-reaching impact lung disease can have, not only on individuals but also on their families and support networks.

Tim is passionate about equitable access to healthcare services and education, regardless of location or financial circumstance. He thinks Lung Foundation Australia “does a tremendous job in advocating for people with lung disease, spreading awareness, raising money, and supporting research” and is proud to be a part of this initiative.

What drives Tim’s involvement in lung health

Tim’s decision to take part in the Larapinta Adventure is grounded in both professional passion and personal purpose. The challenge brings together everything that motivates him: raising awareness and funds for lung health, spending time outdoors in one of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes, and pushing himself physically.

Lung Health Awareness Month holds particular meaning for Tim, as it provides an important platform to highlight the broad spectrum of lung disease. While some people associate lung disease with obvious symptoms like breathlessness or coughing, Tim knows many challenges remain unseen yet profoundly affect quality of life. Raising awareness helps shift understanding of how common and life-limiting lung disease can be.

Why fundraising matters to Tim

Supporting Lung Foundation Australia is deeply important to Tim. He recognises the vital role Lung Foundation Australia plays in raising awareness, funding research, and advocating for people living with lung disease across the country. He says this work “goes a long way to ensuring there is equitable access to services that will help people manage their symptoms and get help, no matter where you live or how much money you earn.”

Tim is personally involved in a bronchiectasis special interest group run by Lung Foundation Australia, which provides clinicians with a platform to influence how this condition is managed. He acknowledges that without Lung Foundation Australia’s leadership and support, opportunities for meaningful change like this simply wouldn’t exist.

Stepping up to the Larapinta Adventure

One of the standout moments Tim is looking forward to on the Larapinta Trail is the early-morning climb to watch the sunrise at Mount Sonder. A 3am start might sound daunting to some, but with a three-month-old at home, early mornings are already part of life.

Training for the trek has also been a welcome motivator to get outdoors more and explore the scenic areas close to home. For Tim, the physical preparation is as much about appreciating the journey as it is about building endurance for the challenge ahead.

Sparking conversations about lung health

Tim hopes his involvement in the Larapinta Adventure will spark conversations and encourage people to engage more deeply with lung health resources. Sometimes awareness begins with a simple discovery, learning that Lung Foundation Australia offers a phone-based nursing service, or realising just how many Australians are affected by lung disease.

At its core, Tim’s message is both honest and hopeful: “lung disease is common, it can be life-limiting, and there are services and support networks out there for all Australians to access.” Tim believes increasing visibility and understanding is a powerful step toward ensuring more people access the help they need.

Looking ahead

By the end of the challenge, Tim’s goal is straightforward but meaningful. He wants to raise as much money and awareness as possible to support the ongoing work of Lung Foundation Australia, enabling more people to benefit from its services, education programs, and research initiatives.

For Tim, success isn’t measured only in dollars raised or kilometres walked. If even one person finds support, information, or care because of this fundraising effort, he will consider it a deeply worthwhile achievement.

Help Tim achieve his goal to raise vital funds and awareness for lung health.
