What support services are available for lung cancer? You will need support once you have a diagnosis of lung cancer, and it’s normal to feel a whole range of emotions, whether they be fear, sadness, anxiety, anger, frustration. They’re all common and we all feel this way at some point in the journey. When I got my lung cancer diagnosis, it was the last thing I expected. We were devastated. Lung cancer has got such a bad name. We probably came home and went on “Dr Google” and read everything we needed to read, and then got more confused and more frustrated and more angry and had to stop.

And it was probably then that I found Lung Cancer Foundation, or the Lung Foundation Australia, and had luck in there. Now, it was through this period that I actually rang the lung cancer support nurse, and she was the one that gave us so much more confidence. The questions, she helped us through so many things, and I knew that at the end of the line she was the person that would help us, would understand what we needed to do.
