Health harms of vaping

It’s important to be well-informed about the choices you make. When it comes to vaping, make sure you are making the healthy, informed choice: Choose vape free. This resource from Lung Foundation Australia was developed in partnership with Na Joomelah and National Best Practice Unit (NBPU) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to know the facts about vaping and empower them to choose vape free.

Vaping poses significant health risks to your body. It can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, chest pain, mouth and airway irritation, and a racing heartbeat. Vaping can damage your lungs, cause burns, and lead to serious health issues.

Toxic Chemicals in Vapes

Vapes contain over 200 toxic chemicals and flavorings that are dangerous to inhale. Some of these chemicals are also used in products like cleaning agents, paint, and petrol. These substances can cause irreversible lung damage and are harmful to human cells and brain development.

Second-Hand Aerosol

Vaping can also be harmful to the people around you. Breathing in second-hand aerosol from vapes can irritate eyes, airways, and worsen respiratory conditions. It’s important to be aware of the impact your vaping can have on others.

Reflection Questions

  • What do you think vaping can do to your lungs?
  • How do you feel when someone vapes around you?
  • Do you think about what you or other people might be inhaling when vaping?

By understanding the health risks associated with vaping and making informed choices, you can protect your health and the health of those around you. Choosing to be vape-free is beneficial for your overall wellbeing. Let’s work together to promote healthier choices and a safer environment for everyone.
