For Frances, taking on the Larapinta Adventure is about more than the walk itself – it’s about awareness, advocacy, and supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
Based in Northcote, Victoria, Frances is passionate about lung and heart health and is proud to be fundraising for Lung Foundation Australia as part of this iconic outback challenge.
Meet Frances
Frances has long admired the work of Lung Foundation Australia, particularly its commitment to research and its depth of experience supporting people affected by lung disease.
“I applaud Lung Foundation Australia for the amount of research it conducts and its experience.”
That respect – combined with her close connection to people living with compromised lung and heart conditions – made supporting this cause an easy decision.
A personal motivation rooted in community care
Frances conducts classes for people living with compromised lung and heart conditions, giving her a firsthand understanding of just how important lung health is to quality of life.
“My connection is to the vulnerable people in our community with lung and/or heart issues, and that’s why I decided to fundraise for this very valuable cause.”
After learning about the Larapinta Adventure via email, Frances saw the challenge as an opportunity not only to raise funds, but to reinforce an important message.
“Just making people aware of a healthy lifestyle and the importance of keeping fit for their lungs and heart.”
Why fundraising matters
For Frances, fundraising is about ensuring Lung Foundation Australia can continue its vital work, now and into the future.
“I feel that fundraising is important to help Lung Foundation Australia continue its research and development work for our increasingly vulnerable communities.”
Every dollar raised helps support research, education and advocacy – all essential to improving outcomes for people living with lung disease.
Taking on the challenge, day by day
When it comes to the Larapinta Trail, Frances is keeping things simple and grounded.
“I’m just going to take the trip day by day.”
Having previously walked the Larapinta trail with a full pack, this experience will be different, but no less meaningful.
“I have walked the Larapinta with a full pack, so this will be a different experience.”
It’s not about speed or milestones, it’s about showing up, step by step, for lung health.
Raising awareness with every step
Frances hopes her fundraising efforts will continue to shine a light on the importance of research into the many diseases and conditions affecting our communities today.
“I hope that my fundraising efforts have and will continue to raise awareness as to the importance of research.”
Her message to others is clear, encouraging and practical: “please consider the trip and give it a ‘red hot’ go! And please keep your lungs and heart health front of mind – be mindful!”
Looking ahead
Frances’ goal is simple but powerful: to reach her fundraising target so Lung Foundation Australia can continue its crucial research and support work.
“I hope to achieve my donation goal to Lung Foundation Australia in order for them to carry on their very important research work.”
