The Accuhaler is a type of dry powder inhaler (DPI). This means your medicine is delivered as a fine powder that you breathe in.

DPIs are breath-actuated, meaning you need to breathe in quickly and deeply to get the medicine into your lungs.

Learn how to correctly use an Accuhaler by watching the video or following the steps below.

Steps for using the Accuhaler

  1. Check the dose counter to make sure the inhaler isn’t empty.
  1. Slide open the cover.
  1. Hold the inhaler horizontally.
  1. Slide the lever until you hear a click. The click means the dose is loaded and the inhaler is ready to use.
  1. Breathe out gently, away from the inhaler.
  1. Place lips around the mouthpiece without biting and form a good seal. Keep the inhaler horizontal.
  1. Breathe in quickly and deeply.
  1. Take the inhaler out of your mouth and hold breath for 5-10 seconds, or as long as comfortable.
  1. Breathe out gently, away from the inhaler.
  1. Wipe the mouthpiece with a dry tissue.
  1. Slide the cover closed until it clicks back into place.

Note: Do not shake the inhaler.

When is the Accuhaler empty?

The dose counter on the side of the inhaler shows you how many doses are left. The last five doses will show up red. The inhaler is empty when the dose counter shows a zero.

How do I clean and store the Accuhaler?

Wipe the inhaler mouthpiece with a clean, dry tissue before closing the cover. Do not wash any part of the inhaler or get it wet. Keep in a cool dry place below 30⁰C, away from moisture, heat or sunlight. Do not store it in the bathroom, near a sink or a window, or in the car.

Check the expiration date on your medicine. Ask your pharmacist how to safely get rid of any medicine you don’t need.

If you have any questions about using this inhaler, talk to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist. Your inhaler will come with instructions. Always read these instructions for important information on how to use it.
