The Genuair is a type of dry powder inhaler (DPI). This means your medicine is delivered as a fine powder that you breathe in.
DPIs are breath-actuated, meaning you need to breathe in quickly and deeply to get the medicine into your lungs.
Learn how to correctly use an Genuair by watching the video or following the steps below.
Steps for using the Genuair
- Check the dose counter to make sure the inhaler isn’t empty.Â
- Remove the cap.Â
- Hold the inhaler horizontally with the large, coloured button facing up. Press the button once and release.Â
- The window under the dose counter should now be green.Â
- Breathe out gently, away from the inhaler.Â
- Place lips around the mouthpiece without biting and form a good seal.Â
- Breathe in quickly and deeply through the mouthpiece. You should hear a click. Keep breathing in after the click so you get all the medicine.Â
- Take the inhaler out of your mouth and hold breath for 5-10 seconds, or as long as comfortable.Â
- Breathe out gently away from the inhaler.Â
- Check that the window has changed to red.Â
If the window under the dose counter has not turned red, you did not breathe in hard enough to get the medicine. Repeat steps 5 to 10.Â
- Wipe the mouthpiece with a dry tissue.Â
- Replace the cap.Â
Note: Do not shake the inhaler.
When is the Genuair empty?
The inhaler has a dose counter which shows how many doses are left. The inhaler is empty when the counter shows a zero. The button will lock in a middle position when the last dose is loaded. After you use the last dose, you cannot use the inhaler again and will need a new one.Â
How do I clean and store the Genuair?Â
Wipe the inhaler mouthpiece with a clean, dry tissue before closing the cap. Do not wash any part of the inhaler or get it wet. This medicine doesn’t require any special storage conditions.
Check the expiration date on your medicine. Ask your pharmacist how to safely get rid of any medicine you don’t need.
If you have any questions about using this inhaler, talk to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist. Your inhaler will come with instructions. Always read these instructions for important information on how to use it.
