Kylie's hope through research

In 2006, Kylie, a vibrant mother of two, faced a life-altering challenge: she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). Without a transplant she was given only five years to live. Confined to a wheelchair and facing a dire prognosis, Kylie held onto hope.

Her persistence paid off when she gained access to a ground-breaking drug after two years of medical evaluations for a transplant. The treatment transformed her life. "It was incredible," Kylie shares. "Simple joys like showering and walking with my kids became possible again, all thanks to this new drug. I was just so grateful."

Kylie’s story is just one of many. There are approximately 30 different lung diseases that urgently need funding for research to develop successful treatments.

Changing lives through research investment

Compared to some other chronic conditions and diseases, research into lung diseases and lung cancer is severely underfunded. Our Hope Research Program is designed to tackle the underrepresentation of lung disease and lung cancer in funded research studies and clinical trials.

Grants and awards

In 2022 and 2023, we invested almost $2.6 million in innovative research projects through funding grants across a broad range of lung disease areas. This research drives a deeper understanding of the causes, prevalence and impacts of lung disease, as well as new methods of diagnosis, treatments and care models to improve health outcomes and quality of life.
