COPD

While there is currently no known cure for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), research for COPD over the years has provided valuable insight into the management, treatment and the importance of exercise and support for Pulmonary Rehabilitation as components of COPD management.

Research in COPD has also underpinned and shaped the COPD X Guidelines which play a key role in driving best practice clinical management of COPD in Australia.

Lung Foundation Australia is driving much needed research into supporting further advancements in the treatment, management – and hopefully cure – for this debilitating, terminal condition.

Our research awards and grants program includes a dedicated COPD Research Fellowship which funds early career and senior leaders in research to undertake two years of dedicated research into the diagnosis, treatment and management of COPD. Since it was established in 1999, the fellowship has successfully propelled COPD in the research space with outcomes that have made a significant impact across the entire care continuum. It has also provided an important foundation for the immense success of its recipients.
