By Emma Gainer, Program Manager, Pulmonary Exercise, Lung Foundation Australia
Three years on from his diagnosis, Doug McSwain set himself a goal to ride for four hours non-stop at Lung Foundation Australia’s 2017 Cycle Challenge – this is a massive feat for anyone, let alone someone living with a chronic lung condition. With the use of a specially manufactured recumbent cycle (three-wheeler), support from friends and family including Lung Foundation Australia’s Lungs in Action program run at Cura Community services, on 14 July 2017, Doug fulfilled his goal. He rode for the full four hours, and completed 100kms in inspirational fashion.
A big congratulations and thanks to Doug and his support network for their dedication. We hope that Doug’s story will inspire you to strive to achieve your goals, no matter how big or small they may be.
