It’s less than halfway through, yet this year has already brought unprecedented challenges for all Australians, but particularly for our lung community.
First the devastating bushfire season and now the unique challenge that is COVID-19. For you, our community, we’re working hard to ensure we continue to provide you with the support and care you need during this time and bring you the most up-to-date news and information to help you stay well.
Here at Lung Foundation Australia we are experiencing a significant downturn in revenue with all fundraising events cancelled for the foreseeable future. Sadly, without continued support, this could impact the critical support services and programs we provide.
For many Australians diagnosed with lung disease or lung cancer, these services provide a lifeline – a steady hand in a very rough sea. When Kylie Corkery was diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in 2006, the mum of two was ‘an absolute mess’.
“I had so many tests and it seemed like my world had come crashing down. Telling my family and friends was the most heart-breaking thing I had ever done, no one could understand,” she said.
Kylie said being able to connect to support services and programs was life-changing.
“Whether it’s just to chat or listen, to help someone fight to get help or just to share our journey with each other, this 100% helps get you through each day knowing you’re not alone. Through these support services, I have met some absolutely amazing people who I now call family.”
The generosity of our community over the past 30 years has enabled Lung Foundation Australia to grow our much-needed support services and programs, but we need help to ensure we can continue to keep these vital services running.
“Lung Foundation Australia needs your help more than ever to be able to support people who are very vulnerable right now. We know already how hard it can be to breathe on a daily basis and COVID-19 could have catastrophic consequences for many of us. Every dollar counts and your support means so much to people like me.”
If you can, please consider giving what you can to ensure all vulnerable Australians living with lung disease and lung cancer continue to receive the support they need and deserve. As a community if we all come together little by little, a little will become a lot.
