Lung Foundation Australia is delighted to be awarded new funding by the Australian Government’s Department of Health as the country’s leading lung health organisation. The organisation will receive $1,150,000 over three years under the Government’s Health Peak and Advisory Bodies Program to address the priorities outlined in the National Preventive Health Strategy.
The multi-year funding recognises our support and engagement for the Strategy priorities and Lung Foundation Australia’s leadership in lung health, lung disease and lung cancer over many years.
‘We look forward to working with the Government, existing and new partners to implement the National Preventive Health Strategy and advance lung health in Australia. Critically this funding increases the Foundation’s capacity to work in areas including lung cancer screening, tobacco control, immunisation and mental health,” said Lung Foundation Australia Chair Associate Prof Lucy Morgan.
Lung disease is a national health priority area impacting one in three Australians. As the national peak lung health organisation, Lung Foundation Australia has extensive experience in multi-sector collaboration to inform and translate policy into preventative health outcomes for the community. In recent years we facilitated the Department of Health National Strategic Action Plan for Lung Conditions (NSAPLC) which aligns closely with the objectives of the Preventive Health Strategy.
“This funding support allows the organisation to rapidly scale up existing infrastructure and capacity to meet the Preventive Health Strategy priority areas. This funding will increase staff capacity to cope with the significant uplift of engagement since launching the NSAPLC, our lead role in government inquiries, and lung health policy and program development to ensure patients have the most up to date information and support,” said CEO Mark Brooke.
