We’ll be diving into the new My COPD Checklist, a simple yet powerful tool that outlines 10 key actions you can take to improve your COPD management and quality of life. From getting the right tests and understanding your medications, to staying active and taking care of your mental health, each action aligns with best-practice care standards. 

An expert clinician will walk you through each checklist item, offering practical tips on how to incorporate these steps into your daily routine. You’ll also hear from a panel of consumers sharing their lived experiences—discussing how they’ve addressed gaps in their care and used 

Whether you’re looking for better ways to manage your symptoms or just live a healthier life with COPD, this webinar will provide you with the knowledge and tools you need to champion your care. 

Meet our panellists: 

A/Prof Natasha Smallwood 

Associate Professor Natasha Smallwood is a consultant respiratory physician at the Alfred Hospital (Melbourne, Australia), Head of the Chronic Respiratory Disease Research Group and Associate Professor at Monash University (Melbourne, Australia). 

She has clinical and research interests in severe lung disease, particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and interstitial lung disease. A/Prof Smallwood is the President elect for the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, a Board Director for the Victorian Doctors Health Program (Australia) and holds multiple leadership roles. 

Ken Bottrell, VIC 

Ken was diagnosed with COPD (Emphysema) in 2002 when hospitalised with pneumonia which he just scraped through. After a lengthy recuperation period, he resumed work as builder though at a much slower pace. Ken lost his darling wife to Lung Cancer in 2019, and became involved with LFA during her illness. He is currently away caravanning with his dog Argee which he loves doing whenever possible. 

Naomi Fitzakerly, SA 

Rebecca Corbett, QLD (host) 

Rebecca is a Respiratory Care Nurse at Lung Foundation Australia. Her role involves providing telephone information, support and advice to people living with COPD and their carers. She is particularly interested in supporting people to address lifestyle changes to improve their quality of life and live as well as possible with COPD.
