These awards recognise individuals who have contributed over a substantial period of time to advancing Lung Foundation Australia’s Mission and Vision. Each individuals contribution has been recognised by their peers and the organisation’s Board of Directors as having made a positive impact on the lives of Australians living with or impacted by lung disease or lung cancer. Please join us in congratulating the following winners.
Prof Dan Chambers
Specialist area – Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) and silicosis
Prof Dan Chambers is a thoracic transplant physician, interstitial lung disease expert, and translational clinician researcher. He is an internationally recognised authority in the fields of lung fibrosis, cell therapy for lung disease and lung transplantation. His research focuses on the mechanisms and treatments for lung fibrosis, silicosis, transplant rejection and post-transplant complications.
Prof Chambers has been an active member of Lung Foundation Australia’s committees and workgroups over the years, including:
- Member of the Occupational Lung Disease Research Network Steering Committee
- Former Chair of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Australasian Clinical Trials (PACT)Network Steering Committee
- A Chief Investigator in the Centre for Research Excellence in Pulmonary Fibrosis.
We thank Prof Chambers for his tireless commitment in the areas of ILD and silicosis and for enriching the lives of those living with lung disease and their families.
Dr Ryan Hoy
Specialist area – Occupational Lung Disease (OLD), in particular silicosis
Dr Ryan Hoy is a respiratory and sleep physician. He’s a Research Fellow at the Monash Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health, within the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University and a visiting medical officer at the Department of Allergy, Clinical Immunology and Respiratory Medicine at The Alfred Hospital. His research interest lies in occupational and environmental causes of respiratory disease.
Dr Hoy has been a key contributor to Lung Foundation Australia over the years including:
- Co-Chairperson of the National Silicosis Prevention Strategy and Action Plan Expert Steering Committee
- Member of Occupational Lung Disease Research Network Steering Committee
- Member of the Thoracis Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) / Lung Foundation Australia OLD Working Group
- Lung Foundation Australia Media Spokesperson.
We thank Dr Hoy for his dedication to improving access to treatment and care for people living with occupational lung diseases.
Ms Sue Morey OAM FRCNA
Specialist area – Respiratory nursing
Ms Sue Morey OAM is a leading figure in her profession as a nurse practitioner in the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. She has spent over 40 years as a respiratory nurse and has watched the developments of respiratory medicine for pulmonary tuberculosis, asbestos-related diseases, asthma, cystic fibrosis and lung transplantation and interventional endobronchial procedures. Ms Morey was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2004 for her services to respiratory medicine nursing.
We thank Mrs Morey for her dedicated commitment to making improvements in respiratory nursing and enriching the lives of those living with lung disease and their families.
A/Prof Nicole Rankin
Specialist area – Lung cancer screening and implementation science
A/Prof Nicole Rankin is an implementation scientist, whose research focuses on the science of research translation, including how evidence can be more rapidly translated into clinical practice, and how to improve patient and health service outcomes. A major focus of her research is lung cancer; from screening, early detection, and management through multidisciplinary care, to palliation and survivorship.
A/Prof Rankin has been integral to many Lung Foundation Australia committees over the years, including:
- Member of Australian Lung Cancer Conference (ALCC) Scientific Committee 2023 and Co-Chair of ALCC 2025
- Chairperson of the 2018 and 2022 Lung Cancer Strategic Blueprint Expert Working Group
- Member of Australian Lung Cancer Trials Group (ALTG)
- Your Voice Lung Cancer Clinician Advocate.

Prof André Schultz
Specialist area – Chronic cough and lung health in First Nations children
Prof André Schultz is the Program Head of Respiratory Health and Head of the BREATH Team at Telethon Kids Institute. He is passionate about finding ways to improve the health trajectories of children through multiple approaches with a strong focus on lung health in First Nations children. He is also a paediatric Respiratory Physician and Clinical Lead for cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis and primary ciliary dyskinesia at Perth Children’s Hospital which provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for all children and young people with cystic fibrosis in Western Australia.
Prof Schultz has been integral to many of Lung Foundation Australia’s committees and projects over the years, including:
- Lead of the Chronic Cough in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children e-learning modules
- Member of Cough – Infants, Children, Adult Diagnosis and Assessment (CICADA) Expert Working Group
- Member of Young Lungs Clinical Advisory Committee
- Australian Bronchiectasis Registry (ABR) Principal Investigator
- Lung Foundation Australia representative and current President of the Australian Council of Smoking and Health (ACOSH).

A/Prof Emily Stone
Specialist area – Lung cancer screening and tobacco control
A/Prof Emily Stone is a Respiratory Physician and clinician-researcher at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and the University of NSW. Her research interests include lung cancer screening, tobacco control and the impact of multidisciplinary team care. A/Prof Stone was a key investigator in the Australian arm of the International Lung Cancer Screening Trial (ILST). She has served as past Chair of the IASLC Tobacco Control Committee and TSANZ Tobacco Control Special Interest Group. A/Prof Stone is the current Deputy Chair of the Thoracic Oncology Group of Australasia and the recently appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Thoracic Oncology Clinical and Research Reports.
A/Prof Stone is a longstanding contributor to Lung Foundation Australia, having served on many committees, including:
- Member of the ALCC Scientific Committee: 2023 and 2025
- Member of Australian Lung Cancer Trials Group (ALTG)
- Member of the Lung Cancer Blueprint 2.0 Expert Working Group
