Lung Foundation Australia delivers evidence-based training and education for health professionals in a variety of different modes. We tailor learning objectives and content to assist health professional to increase the exercise capacity of people with lung disease and lung cancer.

Maintenance exercise online training

The additional Lungs in Action training modules are designed to increase your knowledge and understanding of the theory behind maintenance training. These modules include Lungs in Action practical training, Lungs in Action theory online training and Lungs in Action heart failure training. Follow the links below.

  • Lungs in Action theory online training
    Please note this training course is currently being updated and a new enhanced version will be available in March 2022.

    This online training products the opportunity to upskill for exercise professionals who play a role in exercising people with chronic stable lung diseases and/or heart failure. It is also suitable for those who are a part of a broader multidisciplinary team that offer these services.

    Completion of this course alone does not provide accreditation to run Lungs in Action classes. However, it is a great option for those who would like to expand their knowledge and keep up-to-date with the best-practice training in exercise safety and limitations for people with a chronic lung disease.

    As this training course does not provide full accreditation to run Lungs in Action classes you may not be covered by insurance to work with people with a chronic lung disease, unless previous education has provided you with this scope of practice (ie. Accredited exercise physiologist or physiotherapist). To be fully covered, you may need to complete the Lungs in Action Full Instructor Training which includes practical placements to demonstrate a new skill set.

  • Lungs in Action practical training

    This training provides access to the practical component of the Lungs in Action full instructor package which focuses on the practical skills required to develop and implement Lungs in Action classes. Completion of this training along with successful completion of the Lungs in Action Online Theory allows exercise professionals to deliver Lungs in Action classes in the community.

Pulmonary rehabilitation online training

This is an interactive 6 – 8 hour online training program designed to increase the knowledge and confidence of health professionals in the delivery of evidence-based, best practice pulmonary rehabilitation. Increase your knowledge and confidence in Pulmonary Rehabilitation by completing our Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) accredited, interactive online training course.   • Pulmonary rehabilitation online training

    This is an interactive 6 – 8 hour online training program designed to increase the knowledge and confidence of health professionals in the delivery of evidence-based, best practice pulmonary rehabilitation.

    By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

    • Identify the requirements for establishing a pulmonary rehabilitation program
    • Describe the necessary patient assessments used in pulmonary rehabilitation programs
    • Recognise the importance of exercise training in the treatment of chronic lung disease
    • Understand the principles of incorporating exercise into a pulmonary rehabilitation

  • Pulmonary rehabilitation and physical activity online training

    This 1 – 2 hour course provides an overview of the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation and physical activity for patients with COPD. It also covers the recommended structure of pulmonary rehabilitation programs and provides access to supporting resources.

    By the end of this module, participants will be able to:

    • Outline the benefits of physical activity for patients with COPD
    • Identify recommended guidelines for physical activity
    • Describe the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation
    • Outline what is involved in a pulmonary rehabilitation program
    • Identify evidence-based resources used to establish a pulmonary rehabilitation program and support self-management.
