The Hope Research Fund, with its bold goal to raise $50 million by 2030, will be Australia’s leading national long-term commitment to fund life-changing lung disease and lung cancer research.
Backed by a powerful TV commercial, featuring real voices from those impacted by these devastating lung conditions, the fund was launched on April 22.
One of those who talks in the commercial about the hope this fund will provide is Michel, who was just 42 when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Research has given him access to life-changing treatments through a trial.
“This treatment is giving me more precious time with my wife and daughters – more birthdays, more holidays more moments …
“Some call it research, we call it hope.”

Thanks to the generosity of several families, the Hope Research Fund kicked off with nearly $9 million already pledged through kind donations and gifts left to us in Wills.
Since 1990, Lung Foundation Australia has invested $40.9 million into funding ground-breaking projects of more than 270 researchers. Recent advancements in treatments have seen an increase in survival rates and quality of life across several lung conditions, providing hope that did not previously exist.
The Doltone House (Sydney) launch was an opportunity to bring together Lung Foundation Australia’s passionate community of supporters, researchers and advocates, who share a commitment to improve the lung health of all Australians.
Almost one in three Australians will be impacted by lung disease or lung cancer and every day, 45 Australian families lose a loved one to these devastating conditions. Yet, there is limited investment towards improving early diagnosis and finding treatments to change these heart-breaking statistics.
