Online Support Groups

Lung Foundation Australia understands that it is not always possible for people to participate in face-to-face support groups. Our online support network provides the opportunity for people across the country to participate in a support group, from the comfort of their own home and when it is convenient for them.

Online Support Network

Lung Foundation Australia’s online network hosts a variety of support groups facilitated by our volunteer group leaders with a lived experience of lung disease or lung cancer. Each group in the network is private, with members joining by invitation only to help provide a friendly and supportive environment for members to discuss their thoughts and feelings.

All online groups follow Lung Foundation Australia’s online network guidelines to create a respectful online community.

How does an online support group run?

Online groups run similarly to our face-to-face groups but use the online network functions such as video chat conferencing and online messaging to communicate with each other. All members of the network create their own profile so they can learn more about members in their group.

Online groups can:

  • Hold video chat meetings for focussed discussions
  • Invite healthcare professionals to guest present at meetings
  • Ask questions and create polls or surveys
  • Share and upload helpful resources.
“ I was extremely heartened to know that what I was experiencing was exactly the same as others who were also diagnosed with IPF. Also I found it of immense benefit to discuss among us side effects which I too (or had) experienced..”
